Frequently asked questions
1.What types of issues can psychologists help with?
Psychologists assist with a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, and behavioural problems. They also support personal growth, coping strategies, and life transitions.
2.What can I expect during a therapy session?
During your first session, the psychologist will typically gather information about your concerns, history, and goals. Subsequent sessions involve discussing your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours, and working together on strategies to address your concerns.
3.Is therapy confidential?
Yes, sessions with a psychologist are private and confidential. There are legal and ethical limits to confidentiality, such as if you are under 16 years of age or involving serious harm to yourself or others, or court orders. We will discuss this in the initial session.
4.How do you support clients in small communities where privacy can be a concern?
I take confidentiality very seriously. Sessions are conducted privately, and I use discretion in community settings to protect your privacy and comfort.
5.Do you offer online or telehealth sessions?
Yes, telehealth sessions are available for clients who live remotely or prefer to connect online. These sessions are secure and confidential.
6. What age groups do you see?
I work with adults, adolescents, and in some cases, children—depending on the presenting concerns and suitability for therapy.
7. Do you provide crisis or emergency services?
No, I do not offer emergency mental health care. If you are in crisis, please contact the Mental Health Line on 1800 011 511 or present to the nearest hospital.
8. Do I need a referral to see you?
A referral is not required to book an appointment privately. However, a referral from your GP can allow you to access Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Care Plan.
9. How do I make an appointment?
You can email admin@moruyapsychology.com.au or use the online booking form. Once you are an existing client you can make and cancel bookings yourself using the portal or email our friendly admin.
10. How much do sessions cost?
Sessions cost $300 for a 50min session. Clients with a Mental Health Care Plan can access a Medicare rebate of $145.25 for 10 sessions each calendar year.
11. Can I claim a rebate through Medicare or private health insurance?
If you have a referral and Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, Medicare rebates apply (current rebate $145.25). Some private health funds may also provide partial rebates—check with your provider.
12. What if I have a NDIS plan?
If you have funding for psychological support your plan manager will be billed directly for the sessions. However late cancelation or missed appointments may not be covered.
13. What if I have a Workcover claim?
If you have an approved Workcover claim, we will seek approval following the first session and seek approval for 8 sessions at a time. Invoices will go directly to the insurer. Please note any late cancelation or missed appointment fees are not paid by the insurer.
14. How long is each session, and how many will I need?
Sessions are 50 minutes. The number of sessions varies depending on your situation and goals—some clients attend short-term, others longer-term.
15. How do I know if therapy is helping?
Progress is regularly reviewed in sessions. Initially therapy may feel hard however you should start to notice changes in how you feel, think, and cope with challenges over time.
16. What if I don’t feel comfortable or don’t see progress?
Feeling some discomfort is normal, but if you feel consistently uneasy or are not seeing progress, it’s important to discuss this with your psychologist. They can adjust the approach or help you explore your concerns or help refer you to someone else.
17. What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations require at least 24 hours’ notice. Late cancellations or missed appointments may incur a fee.
